Australia - Soon To Be The World's Next Muslim Nation
Trust a politician to bugger things up. We've been having a bit of debate in this country of late about the abortion pill RU486 and who should regulate its use. Currently the Health Minister has the power of veto over this drug. A Private Member's Bill was introduced to remove the Minister's veto and hand the authority over to the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA). The TGA currently administers the usage of thousands of drugs and RU4686 is the only drugs that falls outside of this.
It's a drug. If it has been scientifically proven to work and have side-effects within accepted guidelines then where is the problem? I don't see that the Health Minister should have a say. As it turns out, the current Health Minister, Tony Abbott MP, is saying it is a vote of no confidence in the position of Health Minister and that of the Government. Poppycock! It's got nothing to do with it. He also happens to be a staunch Catholic opposed to abortion but even this shouldn't come into consideration. Approval for this drug should be based on medical science.
Danna Vale MP has shown a considerable lack of tact by announcing that Australia will become a Muslim nation if the abortion pill is approved due to 100000 less children being born every year meaning 5 million less (white) people in Austrlia in 50 years. Hasn't she heard about compound interest, i.e. kids having kids. Surely it must be closer to 7 million less over 50 years. As if that has anything to do with it. Can't say I'd like to see Catholics running the place either but what has religion got to do with it? Does the Government want to legislate in the interests of keeping a white, Christian Australia? I don't believe she has too many supporters in her argument.
The abortion pill is about women's choices. If the pill is safe then the requirement for surgery is negated. I'm still on the fence as to the safety of RU486 but surely there is enough data to make a rational decision. And I'm not promoting abortions either. People should be better educated to make the right decisions about having children and the activities that lead up to that. I don't see hundreds of thousands of Australian women rushing out to use the pill just because it is there.
Settle down people and don't bring religion into the argument. Next thing they will be banning circumcision based on religious principles.

I'm with you on better education as there are still loads of people who think that a woman ca't get pregnant the first time she has sex. I thought they taught sex education and biology in high school! Do the kids sleep through it, or do they think they know it all?
I'm sure that kids think they know it all. Afterall, who wants to hear about it from some daggy, old teacher when your friends know so much better?
Nothing changes, does it? Each generation thinks they invented it.
