Celebrity Spotting In Subiaco This Afternoon

I don't know who his offsider was but I saw Andrew Vlahov today when I went to do my fruit and vege shopping in Subiaco. If you don't know, he is a former Perth Wildcats captain in the NBL, former several-time Olympian for Australia, and now part owner of the Wildcats. He is a tall man and very powerfully built. He has Vinaigrette sauce on his Subway sandwich, I was walking past and overheard, and he must own a big 4WD as he was leaning on it whilst talking on his expensive-looking mobile phone.

On another matter, I wonder if Subway advertise "6 grams of fat" in the States? I don't think too many people would know how much that is.

So, are you obsessed with hating the US, or what?

Actually Hammy, Subway does advertise "6 grams of fat" and Americans do realize how much that is. We've been operating under dual measurement systems for a few decades (i.e. 2 liter coke), so we're quite familiar with the concept.

Yeah, I guess there is a bit of an obsession there with paying out Americans. Much like Americans making jokes about Polish people. Perhaps because the USA is so USA-centric that when something they do goes wrong they are setting themselves up for a fall. I guess the only thing Aussies are good at are sport and inventing things that the US and other countries manufacture and make the profit from. If America didn't throw up so many funny things what sort of a world would it be to live in? Would you like me to write about what nice thoughts I have about the US?

I spent a month in the US in '95 and didn't see any metric measurements. If, as you say, you are operating under dual measurement systems, you're miles ahead of the English (no pun intended). I can't understand why we are following the French anyway. My parents are from the old generation, metric came to Australia in '66, but they still talk in miles per gallon and how many chain away something is.

Actually, I think that I am fairly balanced in taking the piss out of America, Australia, the British and anything else that makes the headlines. I also have a self-deprecating sense of humour, so, let's use that great word, "perspective".

Mariana Vlahov isn't too bad herself.
