Afternoon At The Driving Range

The boy and I took some time out on Sunday afternoon to go to the driving range at Whaleback Golf Club. The 3-wood was fairly straight. Straight over the right side fence followed by one straight over the left side fence. Well, it amused the boy somewhat. Not having played since last Easter it was hardly surprising when I a blister appear on my left thumb. What to do in this situation, especially considering that you've paid for the balls? Change hands, of course. So I hit a few left-handed 6-irons. The result wasn't too bad either. All within the 100-125 metres range and pretty straight.

The boy enjoyed himself. Mostly he wanted to hit the guy in the ball-collecting vehicle and was disappointed when I didn't do it.

The Boy is reasonably handy with the left-handed 6-iron also

Nice drive from the Boy

We also had a putting competition. I let him do the bunker practice by himself as my thumb was hurting too much. Watching him was rather reminiscent of my mate Loppy and his 11 or 13 shots to get out of a bunker one day.

Gardening To Finish Off The Weekend

I didn't work this Saturday. Instead, I took the boy to his music classes and we did the fruit and veg shopping together. Then we met Miky at Myer before going home for lunch. Off to taekwondo before meeting Miky again to choose some DVDs to watch. We chose Unknown for us and Ice Age 2 for the boy. Not a bad movie and we didn't know anything about it except for the three lines on the back of the DVD packet. Nice way to watch a movie, sometimes. No expectation 'n all. Not a bad movie either. I noticed the lead actor's name, Jim Caviezel, but I couldn't tell you which other movies he's starred in. After the movie had finished we turned over to the TV and Terminator 2 was on. I don't know why but we found ourselves watching it until the early hours. I love the movie though. Any movie with Arnie in it is a good reason to watch.

This morning saw the start of daylight savings. So, after a late night it is easy to imagine that we were slow to get started. Following breakfast and a quick read of the paper Yu-Jin and I went to the driving range at Whaleback Golf Club. He wanted to go to the second storey and, as I had done so before, we did. Very different feeling to be teeing off about 4-5 metres above the ground. I gave the boy a few balls to hit. After that we tried out the putting green and he's quite competitive there followed by the bunker. There is a pitching green and that's probably Yu-Jin's strength. He did quite well on occasion.

Back home I put together some lunch and a water play set. He had the most fun by filling up the lock and then removing the sluice gate to act like a tsunami.

Similar to our play set but we have a crane as well.

Then we went to Bunnings to buy some hedges. A couple of weeks ago we turned the soil out the front and emptied our compost bin contents into it. It was time to plant something and we agreed on a particular hedge that will grow up to three metres tall. My job was to plant it after mixing more compost into the soil. Don't think I've done too bad a job, do you?

I Don't Like Butch Women

I don't like butch women. Especially when they have entered a male-dominated profession. Take the pro shop at the golf club. This is not a place for a butch woman to be working. It's a man's job. Unless the butch woman is a professional golfer.

The boy and I went for a hit at the driving range last night. I had a voucher for 30 free driving range balls that I'd been meaning to make use of for a couple of months. Yesterday, the 27th, I discovered that it expired on the 24th. Bummer. Thought I'd try my luck anyway. So I asked if there had been any extensions made on these vouchers. "No" was the very blunt and without any sense of humour response. If there had been a bloke I may have wangled it. I did ask to borrow a golf club for junior so that he could hit a few balls and she was happy to oblige. Also purchase a very nice golf umbrella as my Christmas present from my mum - thanks mum.

So the boy and I ventured to the range. There was a bucket with two balls left in it at one of the tees. I thought the boy should hit them off as nobody was using that station. I chucked the balls in the hopper and lo and behold some 15 or 20 balls came out. Bonus!! So Yu-Jin got to hit heaps of balls anyway.

The practice was good for me and I'm in need of lots more. It's been over three months since I last hit a ball in anger. Too long and some of my shots really showed it. Couple of really nice tee shots though.
