Had a pretty decent Australia Day this year. There were lamb chops for lunch, cricket on the telly, played cricket in the park and watched the fireworks down by the Swan River. All in all a good day.
P.S. Forgot to mention that I had to call the fire brigade because there was a fire just down the road.

I'm known as a Frugal Bastard as I'm careful with my money and don't like wastage. I travel a bit, take lots of photos, make videos and like sharing my own silly opinions on stupid things and spelling mistakes that I discover in the media. Political comment and satire have a place close to my heart. I also major in sarcasm.

More Proof That Australia Is A Special Administrative Region Of China
I've said it before but Australia is the new Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China. Well, I have more proof. In 2009 Chinese New Year falls on Australia Day.
Australians All. We have been realigned with the Motherland. Kevin Rudd is happy to allow our mining companies to be bought by the Chinese at bargain basement prices, due to the global credit crunch, but I'm wondering why. It is so obvious that we are the newest SAR of China that it isn't necessary to sell off the farm.
Ni hao.

Hot Hot Hot
It's been a tad hot over here in the West. According to the Bureau of Meteorology last Thursday was 38.8 degrees, Friday was 41.2, Saturday was 40.9 and Sunday was 41.6. Monday, as it turned out, was a rather cool 34.8 degrees. What we need to be wary of is the fact that February is the hottest month.
On the Friday, which was Australia Day, the boy and I went to the Perth foreshore to watch the fireworks. They were nearly called off because of the heat and a strong, warm easterly wind. It wasn't a bad show and still quite warm at 9 o'clock but I felt that mother nature put on a better show in the form of lightning. During the presentation they asked everyone in South Perth to wave their torches or mobile phones with lights on. Then they announced that it was the turn of people in Kings Park to do so. At that moment a large bolt of lightning struck directly behind Kings Park. They couldn't have timed it better for effects than that.
One thing that struck me as funny about the Australia Day fireworks was the fact that we were one of the few English speakers in the area that we sat down. I thought to myself "These people are all freeloaders enjoying the free fireworks display. They'll make decent Aussies."
When the fireworks were over we wandered off to the bus station. Then the fireworks started up again. Strange that. Found out on the news the next day that three of the barges on the river used to launch the fireworks caught on fire during the show. That explained it.

Crime Hits Our Home
Somebody, or bodies, ruined our side fence last night. Miky was shocked to discover the fence lying on the plants in our garden. The neighbour's fence was damaged too. I've called the cops and they said they'll investigate but it's most unlikely that they'll catch the bastards. If I caught them it might be a different matter.
Our damaged fence.
Our damaged fence. 2.
Our damaged fence. 3.
The neighbour's damaged fence.
The neighbour's damaged fence 2.
First they kicked our letterbox. Then they graffitied our letterbox and now the damage to the fence. I'm getting a bit sick of this. Our neighbourhood appears to be a bit quiet but there are too many yobbos about the place.
Not a great start to Australia Day.
Postscript - My neighbour thinks that it was just the wind that knocked the fence down, which I couldn't agree with. Then she considered that it may have been a very concentrated wind. If that were the case there would be some damage to the grass near the fence I would assume. I'm not sure what to think but I'd better ring the insurance company, I guess.

It would be un-Australian not to eat lamb on Australia Day.
This family is well prepared for the Lotto Skyshow fireworks.
