Miky wished to show her sister the lovely gardens at the University of Western Australia whilst she is over. Together they made kimbap, sushi for the uninitiated, and took it. There was an undercover area with seating in the gardens where we ate. Being a Sunday and in the middle of summer there was hardly anybody around.
On display were the peacocks that reside at the university and I even spotted a reasonably tame kookaburra.
On the way home we drove down Riverside Drive to see the new Wheel of Perth.

I'm known as a Frugal Bastard as I'm careful with my money and don't like wastage. I travel a bit, take lots of photos, make videos and like sharing my own silly opinions on stupid things and spelling mistakes that I discover in the media. Political comment and satire have a place close to my heart. I also major in sarcasm.

New Twist To An Old Fish Tale
Yesterday, for something different, we decided to go for a picnic. Miky made kimbap, sushi for the uninitiated in Korean culinary delights, and we drove to Burswood next to the casino. There's a nice little park and playground area. The weather wasn't too flash and it was (almost) blowing a gale. She had no intentions of sitting outside in that weather. So we headed to Heirisson Island instead. The car park was a little more sheltered there.
We ate our picnic in the car and it rained as we did so. After lunch the Boy and I played some soccer. Man, I need to get fit. Since returning from our holiday nearly six weeks ago I have lost four and a half kilos but I do need to do a bit more running around. Once we'd finished the game and sat out another rain interruption we decided to head to the other side of the island for a walk and to see the kangaroos. While the other two went to the toilet I stayed in the car. Another car pulled up with two Aboriginal girls inside and a teenage boy. One of the girls, the driver, got out of the car and checked out the contents of other vehicles in the car park. Then she got back in her car and squealed in delight to her friends. It was at this point that she realised she was being stared at and yelled to me, "What the %$#@ are you looking at?" If that's not an admission of bad intentions I don't know what is. It was a bit worrying to leave our car there in the knowledge that she intended to break into another. Luckily she took off after that. When the owner of the car came back, one from a group of three cars with some overseas visitors, none of whom were carrying bags, I informed them that someone looked as though they were going to break in and that they shouldn't leave valuables inside. "We didn't know," was the reply. Didn't know? How naïve!
As we walked alongside the river I noticed a sandal floating by. We arrived at the Causeway Bridge and I spotted the matching sandal next to a fisherman. He was trying to cut a blowfish from his line. I mentioned that he should go fishing for the sandal and he said that he'd tried that but all he caught were blowfish. Isn't that a new twist on an old fish tale?
Didn't see any roos. Did see some fish jumping out of the water in a lake as they were chased by a water bird however. The car was alright when we return as that girl hadn't returned. Not a bad way to spend the arvo.

Visit To Heirisson Island
Today we visited Heirisson Island with some friends with a view to seeing the Western Grey kangaroos on the island and conducting an Easter egg hunt for the children.
We met at our friends' house first as they had a visitor and not enough seats in their vehicle. After arriving at the island, situated between the south part of Perth and the city itself, and which we travel over every day but never stop, we wandered off to the side of the island where the kangaroos are housed. There is a statue of Yagan, a local Aboriginal who involved in several disputes and murders (or retaliation killings as retribution per tribal law) with early white settlers, stands on the island. The Wikipedia article on Yagan is quite informative.
Finally we found the kangaroos, although they only numbered five. Very tame, they were. Everyone could go right up to them and pat them. Quite an experience for the children. One in particular was very friendly.

Back to the other side of the island and then I found a reasonable spot to conduct the Easter egg hunt. The children were playing in the playground and so I dispersed the eggs. They enjoyed finding them although it took a while for the last one to be discovered. Then we sat down and had kimbap (sushi) and dumplings for tea. Not a bad way to finish the day. Even better when we started to eat the chocolate eggs.

Nice Way To Spend Sunday
Had a nice Sunday, did I. The morning was spent letting the young fella play computer games whilst I caught up with some zeds. I then joined him to play a zombie-killing game. After breakfast I read the news and a few blogs. Then Miky wanted to use the computer so Yu-Jin and I watched a documentary on the possibility of a super volcano and super eruption in Yellowstone National Park. Bit of an eye-opener that.
Following this the one day match between Australia and New Zealand was on so Yu-Jin and I played Trouble, fish and poker while I managed to see a bit of cricket. It was 38 degrees celcius outside so I didn't feel terribly like doing much anyway. We read a bit of his Batman - The Ultimate Book of the Dark Knight book for a while before constructing a racing track out of blocks. After all this attention the little bugger still complained about having nothing to do.
Friends of ours invited us out for a picnic. I had been worried about it being too hot for his wife and was thinking about attending the football to see Bobby Despotovski's last game for Perth Glory but I'm glad that we went to the picnic instead. Our friends, Ben and Anne, have some lovely friends and the kids certainly enjoyed playing together in the park. Hale Park inside Kings Park, I think. Nice spot. Once the mozzies came out it was time to go home though. Didn't get home until about 9pm. At least the evening was cool enough for a picnic.
